Hi-8 Doesn't Like CGI!
The News - Latest News

Monday, 10 February 2014

"Hi-8" doesn't like CGI.  That's the truth.  New movie "Hi-8" is all CGI free and very bloody.  It's another one of those VHS style things, where various talents get together and make an anthology movie.  The rules were, no green screen and all practical effects.  It's the brainchild of producer Brad Sykes ("Camp Blood"), who roped in a few low budget/indie directors for the project, including Marcus Koch, Todd Sheets, and Donald Farmer.  Read More...

After years and years of teases, discussions and rumours, it seems that "Evil Dead IV" is to definitely become "Army of Darkness II."  It makes sense I suppose, and in light of the decent "Evil Dead" remake, it is time to strike whilst the gore is still wet, eh?  Read More...

Shout! Factory on Severed Cinema

Following on, from a review I did ("The Beast Within") -- that little latex legend has its Blu-ray release on the 17th of December via Shout! Factory.  Check my review for the synopsis, and as far as I can see, it is an unfortunate bare-bones release, sporting only a few audio commentaries with Tom Holland, Philippe Mora and Paul Clemens.  Those and a trailer.  Ah well, at least it might gather a decent following on Blu-ray.

Meanwhile, Shout! Factory also chucks out "Crawlspace" around the same time and have also released "Saturn 3" earlier this year. Read More..

The Green Inferno - Eli Roth Returns
The News - Latest News
Written by Jay Creepy
Sunday, 24 November 2013

Ironically when reviewing "Welcome to the Jungle," I stated that my Horror Soulmate had lamented the lack of cannibal movies.  Since the fade out of the Italian horror machine, cannibal-in-the-jungle creations are few and far between.

I guess Eli ("Hostel") Roth was thinking the same before us because here comes "The Green Inferno."  According to reviews this one is a return to the feel of the old human munching native tribes we all miss (the above mentioned "
Welcome to the Jungle" came close).  So to quote Eli himself in issue 156 of The Darkside magazine: “Well I'm a big fan of "Cannibal Holocaust" and of that entire short-lived Italian cannibal genre...” He continues, “… we went to a village in Peru that had remained uncontacted by the outside world.  They had no idea what we were doing -- they hadn't seen movie crews or even seen a movie.Read More...

Seed 2: The New Breed Coming Soon!
The News - Latest News

Thursday, 03 October 2013

Uwe Boll, the name that has gathered cringes when people see his name as a writer or director.  Somehow he makes many films with many big names.  Someone, somewhere funds these creations and more importantly someone actually watches them.  Amongst his CV credits though, there are some little gems.  The "Bloodrayne" flicks were fine and "Rampage" was cool.  Then there was "Seed," the oddity which managed to be really good and very in-your-face sick.  From the Fulci inspired kills, to the introduction showing real footage of tortured dogs, to the stomach smacking ending which was just so bloody unfair!  Uwe Boll has stepped down as the writer and director for "Seed 2: The New Breed."  Instead he serves as producer for Marcel Walz who writes and directs. [REC] 4: Apocalypse Due Out Later Next Year

Thursday, 12 September 2013

"[REC]" and its sequel were game changers at the time they slapped us in the face.  Wobble cams had never been presented so well and unfortunately haven't since.  Jaume Balagueró, who watched his partner in "[REC]" take over and go solo on the shockingly out of place "[REC] 3: Genesis" is basically going to take us back to the horror that the series intended by placing part 4 directly after "[REC] 2." A Third Wicker Man Coming Soon
The News - Latest News
Written by Jay Creepy
Wednesday, 28 August 2013

Okay, so a lot of people felt let down by Robin Hardy's "The Wicker Tree" since there was no chance at all it would match the first part of his Pagan trilogy "The Wicker Man" back in the seventies.  Many felt "The Wicker Tree" didn't even try to be a different beast -- it just existed and disappointed with an unremarkable conclusion (let's be fair here, a lot of recent movies suffer the same low level ending.)  Perhaps it was the ridiculous remake which took away (“Aaah, the bees!!”) from the memory of the first.  I dunno.  Either way Robin Hardy has announced a few times within the last two years his aim to make a third and final instalment called "Wrath of the Gods."  I am just at the opening stages of financing it ("Wrath Of The Gods") and hope to make it next year.” said Hardy (Bloody Disgusting).  Read More...
