New Snake Plissken in Escape From New York Remake Print E-mail

Rumours are around that the remake of Escape from New York, though minus a director so far, will be a reality. Three stars are thought to be soon having cash thrown their way to play the legend that is Snake Plissken. Shane from The Walking Dead season 1 and 2, Jon Bernthal, Charlie Hunnam of Sons of Anarchy and Dan Stevens are the men possibly set to step into the boots of the man. Though no offers have been made yet apparently these are the hopefuls. Joel Silver is behind it all, wanting to reboot the whole thing and churn out a possible series of movies.

Charlie Hunnam as Snake Plissken?  Jon Bernthal as Snake Plissken?  Dan Stevens as Snake Plissken?

It seems there are some new characters along with Snake (apart from Cabbie and Brain) check this synopsis “Plissken’s team consists of Mina, a warzone journalist framed for murder and living in the shadows of New York as a scavenger; Cabbie, a schizophrenic travel guide who serves as comic relief; Gareth, the last surviving member of the President’s security detail who harbors a dangerous secret; and The Brain, Plissken’s former partner-in-crime who left him to die after a botched robbery.”

So is this a pipe dream thought up in some studio somewhere? The speculation of this remake has bounced around for some time now. Carpenter remakes are more miss than hit because we cannot shake the memories of his classics such as The Fog, Halloween, Assault of Precinct 13 and The Thing (though The Thing remake was actually a prequel to a remake).

I found this mock up poster which actually looks pretty cool. A vision of things to come?
