ORIGINS - A GENUINE NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD PREQUEL

Cameron Romero's Prequel to Night of the Living Dead - Origins on Severed Cinema

Cameron George Romero, spawn of the genius Godfather of the walking dead genre, has taken to crowd funding site IndieGoGo to raise the cash to make a proper prequel to Night of the Living Dead called Origins. It's going to be set in the sixties and follows what actually started the outbreak.

In 1962, Dr. Ryan Cartwright was on the scientific and altruistic path to find a way for humans to sustain life in the event of M.A.D (Mutual Assured Destruction), a huge topic brought on by the Cuban Missile Crisis. Little did he know that over the course of the next several years of his life, he would take a well-funded and military focused journey to the darkest corners of the world…as he creates the ultimate weapon for the government and a curse that will plague mankind for the rest of days.”

Okay that sounds cool but one has to wonder if exposing the beginning will take a little away from what our own minds can imagine. Cameron's goal is to raise $150,000 which is probably very achievable. As Variety says; “The origin story deserves to be told by someone who passionately loves and has a unique insight into the original movie and nobody has that more than George’s own son,” (Darrin Reed)

Looks like Romero Sr. will be co-producing along with Darrin Reed under the Romero Pictures banner. Cameron states; “I want to take back the zombie genre in the name of the legacy that my father created almost 50 years ago. I want to tell the origin story of the modern zombie, in a way that my father wasn’t able to do so back in 1968.”
