The Punisher Logo on Severed Cinema

Being that The Punisher is one of Marvel's most violent creations and his movies with whichever actor in the part usually equals brutality and bloodshed -- as does the graphic novels, especially those of Garth Ennis -- it's been rumoured here and there recently of two possible new ventures for the vigilante character.

Firstly, since Marvel have had the rights returned, some actors have touted and suggested they would like to become Frank Castle if a new movie emerges. Firstly, Milo Ventimiglia of Rocky Balboa, the voice of the Wolverine TV series and Pathology, has tweeted his interest (though he'll have to pump some weights first) and Frank Grillo who starred in The Purge: Anarchy, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Homefront and many more, has tweeted a series of suggestive comments. Does it all mean anything? Well it'll be interesting how Marvel will re-spark the franchise.

Another looming possibility is ABC Television putting out The Punisher TV series soon. Though no stars are confirmed. Its synopsis is as follows:

A rising star detective with the New York Police Department moonlights as a vigilante hero dubbed The Punisher in order to obtain justice for those the system has failed.

Jeph Loeb the producer behind Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and many cartoon Marvel stuff is slated to also produce this one and perhaps write some of it.

Aside from the 2004 variation, The Punisher as a movie is usually a wonderful excuse for gore and over-the-top violence, so here's to the next level.
