This is one of those film experiences that will not soon be
forgotten. Once in a while a film comes along and makes you
say to yourself: "What the fuck am I watching!?" In
this case, Good Morning Carlos is one of those films!
I mean this in the most loving and favorable way because
this Brazilian short, packs a big punch, full of meaning and
undertones and squeezes it all in its 17 minute runtime.
Director Gurcius Gewdner also has a sequel short called
Pazucus: Island of Vomit and Despair, which needs
financial backing for post-production, release and
distribution, as well as other projects in the works.
Gewdner is a wild artist and has been involved in
practically all aspects of filmmaking in years past,
collaborating on a number of cult/underground projects. The
man has a talent and wild flair for over-the-top filmmaking
styles and pushes the envelope to visual extremes. Born in
the eighties, Gewdner is known in Brazil for his offbeat
work as a director, editor, musician and visual artist. Gewdner
has made a name for himself in the last 15 years, not only
directing, but in partnerships with other artists and
directors, such as performing producing and editing duties
for Peter Baiestorf (Zombio 1 and 2) and Ivan
Cardoso's filmography in the last 10 years.
Good Morning Carlos brings memories of the wild color
scheme of the 80's splatter classic Street Trash,
with a myriad of vivacious vomit schemes and palates that
assemble art. Maybe we have a new form of expression; call
it vomit art and you can make a game out of counting how
many times Carlos vomits, or guessing all the different
colors of puke. Involved with Bulhorgia Productions, who
also do these amazing limited Brazilian horror/exploitation
tees, check out Bulhorgia Productions on Facebook.
Marcel Mars really brings this short to life, playing both
Carlos and his doctor who are in a conflict which involves
something greater than Carlos wanting to "shit out his
turd." Cinematographer Flavio C. Von Sperling also has a
great hand in delivering the beautiful colorful backgrounds
of the movie, which comes in extreme contrast with the
excessive vomiting, but it works! The follow-up film
Pazucus: Island of Vomit and Despair is supposed to
explain what is going on with Carlos causing all this "innard"
turmoil. I noticed during some of the screenings of Good Morning Carlos, custom vomit bags were given to theater
goers and Good Morning Carlos was an official
selection at Phil Anselmo's Housecore Horror Festival, among
others. Contact Gurcius Gwedner on Facebook and support his
incredible projects.
