The "pink film" (ピンク映画) is a Japanese softcore porn sub-genre that first appeared in the 1960's and became an instant hit.  For the most part these types of films were released by small independent companies.  This is of course until 1971 when Nikkatsu Corporation (日活株式会社), known for film and television productions, began creating their own type of pink film entitled the Nikkatsu Roman Porno (日活ロマンポルノ).  How these films differed from their pink film predecessors is that these films had higher production values and bigger budgets.  For almost 20 years Nikkatsu Corporation made more than one thousand of these films.  Now, Impulse Pictures have released a nice compilation of digitally mastered roman porno theatrical trailers presented in anamorphic widescreen.

Many of the movies have a central focus on rape ("Female Teacher") and also contain the word rape in the titles.  Many of the films spawned sequels like "Sex Hunter" and "Nurse Diary."  Some titles contain peeing fetishes and others, sex crazed nurses.  Not all films are extreme in nature however.  Some of the titles have more of a cartoony Anime style with foolishness, while others are blended with action.

One thing is certain when watching a roman porno: you can almost count on crazy, bizarre situations and dialog.  "She Cat" for example has some notable quotes: "Sometimes cute like squirrel, sometimes with fangs bared like a leopard..."  Another claims "sexy women should make love while they're still hot!"  The film "Rape Me!" has a woman saying "I can use this to rinse out his semen" then takes down her drawers and inserts a bottle of beer.

Whether you're a fan of pink films/Nikkatsu roman pornos, or you're a newcomer to the sub-genre, Impulse Pictures have compiled a fine grouping of trailers that are sure to incite some interest in fans and newcomers alike.

Impulse Pictures present the "Nikkatsu Roman Porno Trailer Collection" digitally mastered in 16:9 widescreen and looks excellent.  The Japanese Dolby Digital 2.0 Mono is accompanied with newly translated removable English subtitles.  This release also contains some highly informative liner notes from Behind the Pink Curtain author, Jasper Sharp.  Given that this release is supplemental material as it is, it only contains one "extra," the bonus short film "Ryoko's Lesbian Flight."
