WHO ARE POWERHOUSE FILMS?
Powerhouse Films are a cult label based in the UK which has
sort of crept through the back-door and slapped their
catalogue in my face saying: “Didn't see this coming did
you, bearded fool!!” Fair enough. I slept on them until I
read a brief article in The Darkside Magazine, thus I
explored.
Cult and classy, Jello Biafra, once of The Dead Kennedys,
named The 5,000 Fingers of Dr. T as one of his fave
movies. Powerhouse Films have given it a nice release and
have included a 40 page booklet, plus absolutely loads of
interviews, commentaries, etcetera.
The 1979 seedy classic with George C. Scott, Hardcore,
is under their wings. Standard booklet, interviews and much
more are added on. Wonderful stuff!
Other movies include, The New Centurions (with Mr.
Scott again), See No Evil, 10 Rillington Place,
Jack Nicholson's The Last Detail, and The Wild One.
However a special mention has to go to the Michael Winner &
Charles Bronson team up, The Stone Killer. Two long
interviews, a 40 page booklet and the isolated score.
Powerhouse also have some nifty boxsets out. A Sinbad
one, a Ray Harryhausen one, plus a nice Hammer set (note,
this one is released in October) as Volume One which teases
what could be coming in set two. The Darkside Mag hint such
titles on the way as Cash on Demand (Cushing)
Pirates of Blood River, A Taste of Fear, and
The Damned.
Powerhouse are definitely worth
keeping an eye on. Here's the link to their site:
