Red Room 2 opens with a guy whacking off. A girl sits on the floor in front of him and performs mock fellatio on a light bulb. They are inside a prison-like cage while others view from the opposite side. A woman counts down, with a stopwatch as the man blows his load over the light-bulb-licker’s face.

Each person gets their chance to speak to the camera individually while under a red spotlight. The subtitles of Unearthed Films upcoming DVD release will definitely be welcomed. With English as my native tongue I can only speculate the dialog and plotline.

This group (of four people) all draws cards, which presumably tell each of them the action they have to perform next. Presumably the person in charge is the distorted voiceover we hear instructing information to the four. They have a plastic bin at their disposal that contains objects such as the light bulb, and a toothbrush. These items are to be used in some perverse or violent way.

The next routine happens with the original female who previously used the light bulb, and another male participant. This time the toothbrush is used to inflict pain. The man is strapped to a chair and the woman inserts the baby-blue-brush into his nasal passage. With force, she brushes as blood spills out. Helpless, the man takes the punishment.

The film continues with these various scenarios of the grotesque including chuck drinking, strangulation, and one of the most recognized in the film containing a fisting gone awry. A man starts out pleasuring a woman with his hand. This scene progresses with the insertion of the man’s hand (the penetration is off camera). He completes the act by ripping an unborn fetus from her insides. This isn’t as ‘shocking’ as it sounds. The scene at the beginning of Troma’s Terror Firmer of a fetus removal has the same disturbing merit that this does. For an effectively extreme example of this act, check out the film Subconscious Cruelty.

The casual viewer will find this film twisted and intense. Others with a sickness for extreme horror will probably enjoy this, but don’t expect to be overwhelmed with repulsion. The majority of the film relies on perversion to avert the viewer, rather than gore or extreme violence. Any viewers of the Guinea Pig series, Psycho: The Snuff Reels, or any Seppuku films may find this to be a good companion to any of those, but it won’t surpass them.

I haven’t checked out the original Red Room film, since I’ve heard it’s more boring than this sequel. A large portion of the film is dialog between the participants, and with the lack of subtitles, creates a lack of interest. If Unearthed Films releases a double DVD of the two it will definitely be worth checking out. I for one will be interested in knowing more about the storyline, even if the film isn’t as extreme as I’d anticipated.
