Shout! Factory on Severed Cinema

Shout Factory are turning out a few nifty releases next month. We begin with the infamous Southern Comfort on Blu-Ray with a making-of and a trailer. The making-of has new interviews with the stars and creators. In case you don't know the plot: “Nine National Guardsmen enter the Louisiana swamp for routine training, but an error in judgment by one of the team incites an all-out war with some angry Cajuns who know the territory like the backs of their hands. Armed with a precious few bullets, and confused by the dimly lit, moss-covered maze into which they've stumbled, the guardsmen know they'll be picked off one by one, until they come up with a solution using the only resources they have left...their wits.”

Also The Final Terror is approaching on Blu-Ray with a bloody awful cover. This comes with a commentary by the director and assorted interviews. “A group of young campers out for what they hope to be a fun-filled weekend find their plans spoiled by a disguised, merciless killer who stalks the forest in search of new victims. Soon they are caught in a terrifying sequence of bloodshed and murder. It is up to the remaining few to defend themselves and put an end to the terror filled weekend.

My pick of the bunch is Deadly Eyes which I reviewed ages ago (here), is very very loosely based on James Herbert's The Rats. Standard interviews for the extras. “Grain contaminated with steroids produce large black rats that begin feeding on the citizens of Toronto. A college basketball coach (Sam Groom, The Baby Maker) teams up with a local health inspector (Sara Botsford, The Fog 2005) to uncover the source of the mysterious giant rats. When they discover that the rats are living in the subway, they try to prevent a new subway line from opening before all hell breaks loose underground. This is man’s last desperate, bloody battle to preserve the existence of the human race!” This is so cool and it's been long overdue.

August and September are red blooded as well; titles such as Motel Hell, Leviathan, Pumpkinhead, and My Little Pony: The Complete Series, are nearing. However, the standout for those months has to be Halloween: The Complete Collection, a limited 500 edition lithograph which has all movies, TV variations, etcetera, and a producer's cut of Halloween 6 which hasn't seen the light of day before -- so says the write up.
