A female reality star is axed in half (split straight down the middle) along a dirt road through the mountains of West Virginia.  Her innards hit the dirt and her halves are dragged away by a couple of cannibals.  Thus begins our sequel to Wrong Turn, where a family of cannibals terrorized Eliza Dushku and Desmond Harrington.  This time around, Wrong Turn 2: Dead End brings about a new predicament for turning an unsuspecting group into cannibal cuisine -- a low-rent Survivor reality show.

The setting for Dead End takes place in the very woods of Wrong Turn.  A group of D-List celebrities are corralled together for a military-style reality show called ĎThe Apocalypse: Ultimate Survivalistí.  The cast has signed on to compete in the show, but things get a little too real when they find themselves caught amongst the hungry cannibals currently lodging in the woods.  When the cannibal carnage commences the contestants merely think itís a gimmick for the show, but they quickly come to realize that this is more than a show -- they are in fact contending for their lives.

Thereís not much in the way of great characters in Dead End, aside from the filmís savior, Henry Rollins.  He plays an ex-military man and the host of the reality show.  He plays a genuine bad ass and gives the cannibal creeps a run for their money.  The participants of the show are nothing more than spoiled pseudo-celebs.  Most of the bunch range from uninteresting to annoying or donít fit their characters at all.  One actor, Steve Braun, tries to play a skater character Jonesy, but heís as much a skater as Bam Margera is a Linebacker!  I donít know what director Joe Lynch (or whoever else might have chosen him) was thinking with him as the supreme choice for this role.  If anything, heís an annoying nerdy prep-type.  He does accomplish one thing however; Steve Braun manages to deliver one of the most irritating performances in cinematic history!  Culpability must also go to the filmís writers, Turi Meyer and Al Septien for such an unpleasant creation.  Jonesyís demise doesnít come soon enough.  Aside from the prominence of Rollinís and the annoyance of Braun we get some naked chicks, a black hero and some other characters that are turned into cannibal chow.

Wrong Turn 2: Dead End does a good job delivering a separate entity to the Wrong Turn franchise.  Rather than rehashing the original it tries to deliver a fresh storyline and does so.  The film is filled with blood and gore and some nudity, which will satisfy horror fans, but Steve Braunís character almost single-handedly spoils the entire experience.  Iím being redundant I know, but it has to be documented how much of a douchebag this actorís character is.  Also, I use the term actor very loosely since itís quite evident from the supplemental behind the scenes footage that Braun isnít doing much acting when it comes to the douchebaggery he showcases.  Luckily after he is murdered (which is such a joyous occasion) viewers are able to divest their suicidal thoughts up until now and enjoy the remainder of the film knowing Steve Braun has been put out of our misery!  Just have confidence knowing that there is light at the end of the tunnel and not just a Dead End.

Wrong Turn 2: Dead End gets a Blu-Ray release from 20th Century Fox in a 1.78:1 aspect ratio.  The video presentation is 1080p AVC @24 MBPS and while certain scenes look fine, it does exhibit the dreaded digital noise and flickering grain that the original Wrong Turn blu-ray contained.  The video of this release is better than Wrong Turn by far, but it isn't anything to hold highly on the high definition scale.  The audio is presented English 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio  with Spanish Dolby Surround and French 5.1 Dolby Digital options.  The audio is loud and clear and boasts well for DTS-HD.  The special features contain a commentary by Director Joe Lynch and Actors Erica Leerhsen and Henry Rollins.  There is an additional commentary by Writers Turi Meyer and Al Septien.  'More Guts: The Making of Wrong Turn 2' runs 10-minutes and focuses on the importance of the blood and gore in the film.  The next featurette is 'On Location with P-Nut' running a brief 2-minutes in length and features behind the scenes footage from the "hump stump" (cannibal sex) scene.  To finish off the supplements we get the very cool 'Making Gore Look Good' which runs 12-minutes and is a more in-depth look at how all the cool gore scenes were created.
