4 Mind-blowing Horror Movies to Watch with Family and Friends
For horror fans, watching a horror movie alone is therapeutic, even though that sounds contradictory. However, if you have been watching movies for quite some time, you know that there are titles that are best watched with other people. Not all of them are meant to be watched in the middle of the night, alone, in the dark, with one eye open. Some are just way more fun when you’re surrounded by your favorite people hiding behind a pillow.
And beyond that, most of these horror films aren’t just focused on jump scares or how loud the music gets when something creepy appears. They have stories that mess with your head that not everyone expects. Here are four mind-blowing horror movies that you can watch on most streaming services right now.
Color Out of Space (2019)
I didn’t expect Color Out of Space to mess with my head this much, but wow, it really did. I watched this with a few friends, and halfway through, we all just kept looking at each other like, “What is happening?” The movie starts off pretty calmly with a family who has just moved to a quiet farm. But when a glowing meteor crashes into their yard, everything goes sideways.
At first, it’s just strange colors in the plants and water, but then things get creepier as animals mutate, time starts feeling off, and the family begins acting… different. Nicholas Cage really gave a great performance here. I loved him in this movie. Just a PSA that this is not your typical horror movie with nonstop jump scares. Just make sure that when you watch this movie, your internet service provider is at the top of its game for smooth streaming.
Possessor (2020)
This one left me feeling a little disturbed in a good way. Possessor is so intense that I couldn’t actually forget the entire movie. I watched it expecting a cool sci-fi thriller, but it turned out to be way darker and more mind-bending than I thought. It’s about an assassin who uses brain-implant technology to take over people’s bodies and carry out hits. Yep, it’s as messed up as it sounds.
There is a lot of violence (brutal scenes), but the way it plays with identity really got to me. You’ll literally ask yourself, “Who’s really in control?” The longer the movie goes on, the more everything starts to blur. If your group is into psychological horror, body swaps, and stories that make you feel a little uncomfortable, you’ll love this movie as much as we did.

The Void (2016)
My expectations were very low for this movie. We just tried watching it because we were bored, but I didn’t know that it would throw me off in the best way possible. The story is about a small-town cop who finds a wounded man on the side of the road and brings him to a local hospital. From there, hooded cult members suddenly surround the building, and patients start acting weird, and before you all know it, people are becoming these horrifying creatures. We were able to watch this while it was being aired on a channel on Dish TV, and it was great!
In the Mouth of Madness (1994)
I thought I lost my mind watching this movie, and I mean that as a compliment. I’ve heard about this movie being a cult classic, so I invited my friends to watch it with me. But wow… we weren’t ready for it. At first, it was just a simple psychological mystery, but by the end, it feels like you’ve fallen into a nightmare inside a nightmare. The story is about an insurance investigator who’s trying to track down a missing horror author whose books are causing people to go insane. The town he visited was super eerie, and the people were just as unsettling. We loved how we felt so uncomfortable throughout the movie.
These movies came as a surprise to us when we first watched them. It’s that feeling you get when you expect something but get something completely better. So, if you are planning a movie night with your family or friends, you can never go wrong with these movies. Trust me on this, and once you’ve watched them, let me know what you think. Happy watching!
