He’s Still Out There: ‘A Man in the Woods with an Axe’ Keeps the 80s Slasher Spirit Alive
A new love letter to the golden era horror — of masked or hideous fellas hanging out in the woods killing folks like Madman and Friday the 13th — is on its way with its self knowing winking name, A Man in the Woods with an Axe.
There’s loads of attempts to throw us backwards to those carefree days by modern filmmakers and I welcome each one because they likely encourage newbie horror embryos to go online or into DVD shops to hunt out old school titles — or, like a few kids I know, they buy a VHS player and go seeking the pure retro way.
Director Dillon (The Summer We Died, Primal Darkness) Brown is looking at getting this released in 2027 and says A Man in the Woods with an Axe challenges the genre as well as pays homage.
So, let’s have an idea of what it’s about then:
Spanning four decades, A Man in the Woods with an Axe begins in the summer of 1987 before pushing into the modern era, weaving together timelines and perspectives in a way that builds both dread and intrigue.
Yeah, I’m fairly hyped for this one.
