A Symphony of Slaughter: Basement Torture Killings Unleash ‘The Gallery of Monsters Part 1’
A few years ago, I reviewed an absolute unholy blast of an album by the UK’s Basement Torture Killings (read Basement Torture Killings ‘Lessons in Murder’ album review) in which I stated they are old school goregrind/deathgore but made in the modern era. Basement Torture Killings aren’t here to be friendly; they’re here to skin you, smash your cranium in, then open out your body to spoon out your viscera (not necessarily in that order!)
The Gallery of Monsters Part 1 is a steaming glistening new EP containing four new edifice crumbling songs designed for those sick and perverse individuals who adore their loud brutal sonic attacks.
“Step into the gallery of monsters where you will come face to face with the most depraved and vicious killers of all time…” thus begins our journey. Thunderous fast drums and guitars accompany us as young innocent looking Millie aka Beryl (who plays with intestines on stage) and Tarquin growl, slur then guttural groan their lyrics taking turns assaulting your eardrums. ‘The Strangler’ is the title of track one and they have lost none of their impact. The track breaks in the right places, screaming guitars pierce the soundscape and show how energetic and exciting snuffgrind (yeah, their genre) can be with well played electrics, bass and drums.
‘The Piquerist’ follows, which means someone who becomes aroused by stabbing flesh with sharp objects. This EP is a collection following various murderers. It’s like the old Amicus anthology, Asylum, as you walk the corridors hearing the stories of each patient behind the door. A full album would have been unbeatable — a serial killer concept album. There’s gonna be four EPs in the series. Yummy. As it stands, the tetralogy of nasties awaiting you are seriously dominating. The most outstanding tune for me is ‘The Psychic.’ It’s sounds like a blend of Gorerotted and Death but stands alone as totally original. Your head begins to nod, then slams into objects — this track is so jaw-droppingly intense. Things slow down (a tiny wee bit) for chunkblower 4, ‘The Scaphist.’
“This concludes the first part of the gallery of monsters…”
There are little repulsive sound bites before each chapter which develops into a sickening stroll down a murder avenue. This is a disaster area for anyone not used to the heavy side of life. Basement Torture Killings have somehow matured their already perfect sound to become the next level in death/slam/snuff/goregrind whatever you want to call it. The Gallery of Monsters Part 1 is genuinely the ultimate real deal in crimson ear pounding madness.
The EP drops digitally June 13th followed by a very limited numbered CD which will feature a couple of extra tracks available via their Bandcamp.
