Baphomet Has Finally Risen!
It’s been a long time coming, but Matthan Harris has finally brought us what promises to be his masterpiece so far with Baphomet. Matthan used to feature quite regularly in the realm of Severed Cinema. I first saw him in German Angst (see review here) and we were in contact soon after. Many of his films were reviewed over time including The Inflicted (see review here), Sudden Reality (see review here), etcetera, whilst Matthan went and took the plunge with an interview back in 2017 (read interview with Matthan Harris here).
He has been working on Baphomet for a very long time because it’s written and directed by him, plus it stars himself, Dani Filth (Cradle of Fear, Cradle of Filth) and movie legend Giovanni Lombardo Radice/ a.k.a. John Morgan (Beyond Fury, House of Flesh Mannequins, City of the Living Dead, The Omen, Cannibal Ferox and so many more). A strange random little Severed Cinema fact about Giovanni for you involving myself – two of my short movie roles have been in films starring him (both mentioned above). I appear as myself briefly in the upcoming The Witches of the Sands in which Mr. Radice appears also and finally in the credits of Baphomet I get a “special thanks”…
The Story
Anyhow, Baphomet is out on the 8th of June in many formats. For those wondering what it’s all about, here’s the synopsis:
The Richardson family celebrates their 28-year-old daughter’s pregnancy in Northern California. The celebration is interrupted when a Satanic cult member, Aksel Brandr, pays them an unexpected visit. Aksel, on behalf of the cult’s leader Henrik Brandr, offers to pay the family a large sum for ownership of their land. Jacob Richardson, the father, rejects the offer due to the priceless sentimental value of their home. Henrik and his cult, displeased, begin to put devastating curses on the Richardsons, trying to force them off their land – even if it means murdering them. After suffering unexplainable tragedies, the Richardsons seek help from Marybeth, a white witch high priestess. They soon discover a terrible secret about their home, revealing why it is so valuable to the cult. They realize they must protect their property from the cult at all costs, and a violent battle between good and evil ensues.
