Blood, Guts, and Galactic Terror: ‘Color Space Blood Red’ DVD Review!
Prepare to plunge into the intergalactic world of Color Space Blood Red, a micro-budget flick that serves as a testament to the passionate filmmaking of filmmaker Stephen Grischuk. This sci-fi horror adventure not only showcases Grischuk’s creative prowess but also offers a tantalizing glimpse into the mind behind Vapor Green (see review for Vapor Green here), another film from Box Creep Films.
Color Space Blood Red takes viewers on a journey that takes us from an eerie distant planet to the depths of space. Our story kicks off with a mysterious intergalactic traveller who lands on the ominous Planet XXY, only to face a gruesome encounter with a tiny wormy tentacled parasitic creature.
Cut to the present day, and we meet Captain Henry Thomas (Shane Kepler, drummer for the band Red Wizard), a daring bounty hunter aboard the Starship Donovan. His mission? To capture the enigmatic parasitic creature, that we were introduced to earlier, for a handsome reward. Ignoring the ship’s warning about the planet’s dangers, Thomas embarks on a perilous expedition, armed with his trusty blaster.
As Thomas explores the planet’s earth-like flora, he stumbles upon the unfortunate traveller from the beginning, now reduced to a skeletal frame with his suit leaking intestines. A “Danger Detected” warning adds an extra layer of suspense, and a sudden attack by the parasitic creature turns the scene into a blood-soaked nightmare.
The distress signal from Thomas’s ship reaches another character, Captain Mason (Ian Johnson, Vapor Green), who offers help. With a comical Marvin the Martian-style blaster and no spacesuit, Mason boards the Donovan, only to encounter a terror beyond imagination.
Color Space Blood Red is a compact 30-minute (26 minutes plus bloopers) ride filled with raw and gory delights. The design of the parasitic creature with its tentacle-like appendages is cool, especially as it invades Thomas’s body in a gruesome manner. While the makeup effects may not be ultra-realistic, they add a fun and engaging element to the story.
The creativity shines through in the set design, costumes, and spaceship scenes, giving the movie a unique and charming appeal. Color Space Blood Red is a perfect choice for those seeking a Halloween season flick and comes recommended for fans of micro-budget horror with an open mind.
