Curtain Call for a Legend: Remembering Johnny Legend (1948–2026)
On Friday night I saw Johnny Legend’s sister post on Facebook that he had passed through the curtains.
Only the hardcore cult movie and rasslin folks will know his name. This guy was and always will be the real deal fan boy for life. He had many faces and roles through his decades on this planet, long time rockabilly singer, know for roles in 2001 Maniacs, Bride of Re-Animator, and host of a few TV series. He was a wrestling manager, and an underground movie producer plus director in his lifetime as well.
Central to everything Johnny Legend was a horror and trash fanatic!
His passing has saddened me. As I get older I kind of see myself becoming like him. I’ve been decades on and off in music, had a few cult film roles, directed some stuff, and I am a fixated geek of Trash Cinema. The only thing I haven’t done is the wrestling manager role. Hmm, there’s still time, I guess.
I’ve sworn that when I turn 55, I’m gonna grow my beard like his, I’ve said that for years. In homage to this great man, who lived the life force of at least five, I will do this 😄
Rest peacefully, you and your wonderful beard shall never be forgotten. Wish I’d met you at least once, though — would have been a blast!
