Exploring Agony and Artistry: Upcoming Documentary ‘The Art of Self-Harm’ Delves into the World of Daniel Valient aka White Gardenia!
It seems there is a monsoon of agony and passion these days because Severed Cinema regular, Daniel Valient aka White Gardenia is going to be the subject of an upcoming documentary, The Art of Self-Harm, from Jonathan Doe (Barf Bunny, The Degenerates, Defilement of a Porcelain Doll) and Putrid Productions.
Only recently did I review the ultimate edition of this artist’s huge body of visual work, Mutilation Theatre (see our thorough review of Mutilation Theatre here). So whilst Daniel has entered the world of biblical films, Doe is keeping the roots alive.
White Gardenia is actually a collective of like-minded individuals who partake in pain experiments for experience, blood drinking, and so much more. However, along the way comes a whole load of messages almost subliminal in their delivery.
On August 15th producer credits will begin. Those who contribute will receive signed DVDs, etcetera, and all moneys raised go towards the movie.
Daniel will probably one day become a huge breakout star but will risk becoming a circus act. So far, the appreciation of the underground is its most rewarding.
I’ll update as things progress with The Art of Self-Harm. Meanwhile, here’s a couple of links to interviews I did with Daniel and his co-host of chaos, Allison S.
