Fulci for Fake (Hopefully) on its Way Soon!
Scrolling down Facebook, I noticed a bit of information about the Fulci biopic, Fulci for Fake. Apparently it is due for release later this year in America. Now this is only an unconfirmed rumour. On the other hand, there is mention of a blu-ray is on the FB page in comments. If this is so (worldwide needs to be discovered!) then many can feast their blood-hungry eyes on a golden nugget in the mine of biopics which are all over the place these days. Who cares about Elton John and Fred Mercury? This is Lucio Fulci we are discussing here!
Firstly, the film features interviews with Antonella Fulci, Fabio Frizzi, and Michele Soavi. It also contains archived interviews with the legend himself. Fulci for Fake is the baby of Simone Scafidi, the man behind 2015’s Eva Bruan. The feather in the peak of the cap has to be the casting of Nicola Nocella who plays an actor agreeing to play Lucio in the biopic. So he sets out to discover more about the subject.
The synopsis is as follows:
Nicola, a successful actor, agrees to play Lucio Fulci in a biopic dedicated to the director. The actor begins a journey to discover Fulci the man, so that he can interpret it in the best way. He will meet his daughter, friends, collaborators of the director, and the most profound scholars of Fulci’s work. He will have access to new and unseen materials.
Nicola, divided between the preparation of the film and the study of the character, will deeply question the true nature of a man who, already in life, had rewritten his biography. A biography in which myth, creation and legend have rewritten an exhilarating and dramatic life.
Subsequently, Fulci for Fake is available on Chili and has been shown at festivals. However, so far it has eluded the legions of Fulci fanatics who yearn for a widespread version to appear. Most importantly, it will be released in home video in Italy around September this year. The production is closing a deal for another home video release, in an important English speaking country, but I can not tell you more.
