Kiyotaka Tsurisaki and TetroVideo are Going to Shock You Three Times!
Severed Cinema darlings, TetroVideo are getting set to release the intense and graphic “Kiyotaka Tsurisaki Shockumentary Collection” which contains three real life death documentary kind of things. As a matter of fact, I reviewed one of them, Orozco the Embalmer (Orozco el embalsamador), late last year (see review here) to great acclaim. I haven’t seen the other two in this set, so my evil eyes are glassy with thoughts of the wonders within.
Orozco the Embalmer (2001), Junk Films (2007), and The Wasteland (2014) cement the reputation of ex-corpse photographer turned cadaver film maker, Kiyotaka Tsurisaki, showing himself as an educational death doc guy. There is a lot of social and religious commentary in his films.
Orozco the Embalmer is a shockumentary about the Colombian embalmer Froilan Orozco Duarte, about his grim work in one of the poorest and most dangerous parts in Colombia: Bogotà.
Junk Films is a collection of short documentaries pondering the meaning of life and death by the use of shocking images. In Junk Films, Kiyotaka Tsurisaki focuses on the subject of war to offer a startling look at the aftermath of combat and on death’s many forms (disasters, starvation, tragic accidents) to highlight the fragility of human life.
The Wasteland is a look into the world around us, into the aftermath of war, religion, and other evil facets that aid in the destruction of Earth. To set the mood for The Wasteland, Kiyotaka Tsurisaki teams up with the Japanese doom metal band Corrupted.
I reckon these will sell out very fast. Two different versions are popping out: a Limited Edition Box Set which has only 170 copies and the Golden Edition which is limited to just 30 numbered copies (3-disc Box Set + Slipcase – 170 copies Limited Edition 3-disc Box Set + gold Slipcase + gold Card – 30 numbered copies)
Here’s the link to Tetrovideo’s website for a browse (TetroVideo here) and I will say this, there has been some negative words on social media recently, generally coming from one source and some people are riding that hate bandwagon. I have ordered twice from TetroVideo and have had absolutely no problems, as have many, many other collectors out there, as also stated on social media!
