Profane Order: Slave Morality Album Review!
Profane Order Music Review:
War metal or Satanic speed metal has been around the block and back. Fortunately, Profane Order are keeping it alive and well in Canada. That dirty grinding style that layers black metal ideals yet focusses on upheaval and a hatred for societies ignorance, neglect, and values.
Canada is the battleground — Montreal actually — and founding member guitarist/vocalist Jordan Kelly as Illusory is the main man behind the project. Kelly is a native of Newfoundland and an absolute metal beast. You can also catch him in the amazing black metal band Spectral Wound (A Diabolic Thirst album review here) when he’s not going into battle with Profane Order.
Slave Morality boasts a powerful production and sound which opens the gates and explores new territory in the war metal realm. They’ve managed to keep that primitive pounding aura but keep it fresh and impressive within the genre. An underground release doesn’t need to sound like it was recorded in a wet cardboard box to have street cred.
Tracks like Black Vomit Desecration are face ripping and you can really hear all the instruments pounding in the front especially the drums, it’s chaotic, dirty, and heavy but well made musically. The vocals are very similar to bands such as Revenge, Blasphemy, Axis of Advance, and Conqueror. That static crusted demonic tormented vox associated with this style.
Profane Order are a Canadian gem that war metal fans should embrace. It’s relentless, evil, and powerful. Unbridled pounding, primitive brutality throughout. You can find Slave Morality on Spotify (here) and Bandcamp. Let’s hope they get more merch and a new release in the works soon. Putting Canada back in the underground metal spotlight, the beast has arisen.
