Revisiting Meltdown Movies: ‘Street Trash’ Remake/Sequel Still on the Horizon!
In the deep and protected world of horror, there lies a kind of rule stating that some films should never be tainted by a remake or reboot. We have all been smacked around constantly by lame attempts that certainly don’t bring new folks out to seek out the originals.
Then there are films like Dawn of the Dead, Candyman, and Day of the Dead (the last one is me joking) that absolutely nail the subject, throwing up surprises and silencing most of, if not all the worried people who cried out at first.
2024 is bringing forth a remake of something so cult, so underground, so protected, yet nobody I’ve seen so far has a bad word or concerned post to type: Street Trash (see double feature review of the original Street Trash and Society here)! The remake of Street Trash has been reported here and there for many months, but things suddenly fell quiet.
Yep, the ‘80s tape rental meltdown hobo flick is returning with (it’s been stated) full on real effects, hopefully not how The Thing prequel used them mixed with fumbling CGI.
The movie in the hands of 2020’s, Fried Barry director, Ryan Kruger who has leapt into the challenge of creating a reboot sequel to an over 30-years-old cult gem, amongst an almost forgotten horror subgenre: ‘Meltdown Movies’ (as stated above). Ryan has informed me, though he cannot discuss anything about the project currently, but it is indeed still alive!
It’s going to be a Screambox original, starring a fair few ultra busy character actors, and about a plot to exterminate every homeless person in the city.
With anymore updates in the future I will grab a bottle of Viper and let you know how it goes.
