Septic DVD Review from Morbid Vision Films!
Gore connoisseurs and underground horror enthusiasts have been patiently waiting for Septic to be unleashed from Morbid Vision Films. Five years in the making, Brian Paulin’s morbid tale, Septic, is the Fetus director’s take on the dark web and “red rooms.” For the first time, Paulin’s victims face the wrath of people, rather than zombies or insane Japanese inspired monsters, which had this writer wondering if the absence of such creatures would leave a void. Let’s take a look…
Right from onset, a woman residing in a typical suburban neighbourhood gleefully watches a man chained to a ladder, on her laptop screen. Two masked men can be seen with our victim. The victim begins to be bludgeoned in the head with a pipe by one of the masked men. One of the men then holds the man’s head whist the other starts digging screwdrivers into his skull as dark crimson billows out. Next, a hunk of glistening yellow fat is removed with the screwdrivers. The man cringes in pain. The whole while the soundtrack blares chaotic noise. Roll titles.
Septic tells the story of webcam model Sharon (Morgan Desautel) and her Husband (Steve Savage) who have been trying to have a baby to no avail. One evening they contact a man called Thomas Forsberg (Brian Paulin), who comes over to set the couple up with a dark web server wherein the couple can perform a fertility procedure. Forsberg tells the couple they need a body, and money to perform the surgery they want to do. He says he has a way to do this if they are willing to go through with it. He proposes for the couple to stream their procedure on the dark web in their own red room. The duo agree and Forsberg sets them up with the info they need.
Thomas Forsberg is into some wild shot. We see scenes of him being sliced with a razorblade by our future Surgery Host (Ashley Valentine) and he’s being barfed on (both unsimulated). He even performs this whacked out abortion, on her and the two inject fetus fluid into their veins. Yes, perhaps this is the man for the job!
Sometime thereafter, we are introduced to Dr. Woo (Chris Kinniery), the man behind this fertility surgery. The host, provided by Forsberg, lays naked on a gurney. Dr. Woo begins the surgery by cutting open her stomach with a scalpel which brought me back to Flower of Flesh and Blood. Her entrails are removed, but the prize possession is her uterus. Once removed, the uterus is quickly taken away by an assistant. We then see Sharon getting ready for the procedure. A hose is connected to her nether region, while tubes are attached to the uterus hung by IV bags.
After the surgery, the Doctor tells Sharon to come back and see him in a week. But the question remains, was the surgery a success, or will it become… Septic?
So that’s the basic premise of Septic. There are sub-plots, however, which involve the enslavement of a little girl. The movie also explores darker web depravity. Not to mention the gore-soaked conclusion which contain the best, most realistic spraying of blood I have ever witnessed in a gore film.
As I proposed the thought at the beginning of this writing, is there a void left with no creature FX? Hell no! Septic is pure insanity. There are so many creative fucked-up ways to invoke gore that I didn’t once ponder that of wanting creature FX. Penises are mutilated, babies are smashed, people are shot, people are stabbed, bodies are brutally mutilated, heads are bashed open via sledgehammer, disgusting vaginal discharge, and overall blood gushing forth upon the screen. Septic is relentless.
Additionally, the acting is even good (for a gore film) from the main antagonists all giving dedicated performances. Brian Paulin steals the show as Thomas Forsberg which is evident by his complete comfortability onscreen.
For 20-years Morbid Vision films have been delivering paramount underground extreme gore with classics such as Bone Sickness, Fetus, Blood Pigs, and Cryptic Plasm, and Septic is no exception. The wait is almost over. Fans of Brian Paulin’s underground gore are in for a treat.
