The Return of Clive Barker with Books of Blood!
Does anyone recall those wonderful years when Clive Barker first arrived on the scene? Hitting everyone in the face with his Books of Blood shorts, and then Weaveworld, Cabal, etcetera? Then along came the Hellraiser movie of course (no one really mentions The Damnation Game or Rawhead Rex much these days).
Well, it all fell to pieces. His horrors became more fantasy based, Nightbreed was raped and chewed up, plus, aside from a couple of the later Hellraiser films, the series caved in and made his name stench up the room a bit.
His art made waves, however, as did Candyman and The Midnight Meat Train flicks, but overall Clive Barker faded.
He originally announced a new novel on his website back in 2019, then went quiet again. Now, he’s hit social media to announce that along with the Hulu series adaptations of Books of Blood, that new book, Deep Hill, will appear soon. Along with a collection of poems, and a novella I reckon Mr. Barker was busy during lockdown.
As for the Books of Blood appearing via Hulu, that could be quite exciting since they worked well into comic form courtesy of the Tapping the Vein series some decades ago, so I am rather looking forwards to this.
