Uk Born Illustrator Martin Trafford is Hung Drawn and Slaughtered!
After an initial small press release run five years ago and with much request, UK born illustrator Martin Trafford has announced the release of a re-edited and extended edition of his book Hung Drawn and Slaughtered through the French label Serial Pleasures.
Spanning two decades, Hung Drawn and Slaughtered showcases many posters, DVD covers, and some of his comic book work for many underground film directors and producers, whilst also touching on more high-profile company work for the likes of Arrow Video, Blacklava Entertainment, Cult Epics, and Unearthed films.
Many recognisable underground names such as Buttgereit, Dora, and Deodato are represented here as well as a myriad of lesser known but equally respected indie and underground film makers.
It’s safe to say if you follow the careers of underground or extreme horror filmmakers you will already have some Traffart on your shelves without realising it.
The book has writing and testimonies from many on the scene and includes a written discussion on art with Michael (Maggot) Todd Schneider.
If you are looking for an upsetting coffee table book or an interesting read on the toilet this is the book for you. It is presented in a large soft back A4 size with over 150 pages of full colour illustrations.
Martin Trafford has become an important part of the international cultural scene in this millennium. He dedicates his art to works of popular culture — as an illustrator for comics, cartoons, posters as well as for cover and poster artworks for films. Whether underground, independent, or mainstream — countless films are now associated with Martin Trafford’s graphics.
His artistic origin is the comic. His art is comic art, he is a draftsman, not a painter. The identity of his work derives from the contours, not the colors. A work of art is immediately recognizable as a work by Martin Trafford. The reason for this is that Martin Trafford has what many other artists lack: his own stylistic signature.
In a world where the computer has taken over every type of design, it’s good to know that there are still artists like Trafford who rely on the skill of their hands. Artists who have not yet sunk into commercialism, but who draw their motivation from their idealism.
