Under the Shadow of the Horns from Procedure22!
A new transgressive film under Procedure22 titled Under the Shadow of the Horns follows a similar precedence as that of Dogme 95, a filmmaking movement started in 1995 by the Danish directors Lars von Trier and Thomas Vinterberg, who created the Dogme 95 Manifesto. Like Dogme 95, Procedure22 follows a set of shooting rules.
The Rules of Shooting a Film in Procedure22
- Cameras used on set must be (or was at some point) consumer grade cameras. it should not cost you more than the budget of the film to rent or purchase. SHOOTING ON OUTDATED EQUIPMENT IS ENCOURAGED.
- Budget of the film must be NO LESS than $500 – and NO MORE than $4,000 from start to finish. (we go past $4000 another project will be set up)
- Actors must improvise 60% of their character’s content. A guideline of the characters, plot and scenes is preferred, rather than a script.
- Funding of the film, must come from the main creator(s) of the project or sourced from interested parties of cinema. This does NOT include backers/producers looking to finance a film for monetary gain only.
- Shooting must be done on location, in public spaces. Locations owned by the creators of the project are acceptable.
- Any music used within the film must be made for the film, keeping to the established budget of the entire project.
- You have 120 days after filming is completed to finalize your film in post-production.
Under the Shadow of the Horns
The film follows a girl who’s shy, conflicted and turns to the Devil for love, help and guidance a sort of standalone drama that keeps the viewer entertained and wondering where does this all lead too. A romance, an art film and conversation with the devil.
We know the plot, we know the characters, we describe the characters and some of the scenes and where the plot leads, BUT we push to have the actor come up with 60% of the characters behavior, dialogue, wardrobe and more. This an exercise in improvisation. A call back to actors acting and us documenting the experience as a film.
