Lilli Got Sick Review from Violent Art!
Enter German indie filmmaker/effects man Sebastian Zeglarski and his growing repertoire of gore and degradation put on film. I first heard of Zeglarski when he was splashing gore all over the screen working with P.S.Y.C.H.O. Productions making Der Konig Der Kannibalen (Cannibal Messiah in English) in 2016. Before this Zeglarski had directed infamous cult gore film A Cruel Fucking Nightmare also doing the effects. He also did the effects for P.S.Y.C.H.O. Productions Nocta which was an absolute party gorefest and he also directed the short What’s Wrong with You?
Zeglarski is back with another full-length feature in the works titled Violent Obsession. In the meantime, he has dropped this twisted little ditty titled Lilli Got Sick, which is a short film about a girl with a broken home and even more broken mind.
I really dig the child like intro of crayon drawings on paper and the aesthetic and style used here. We see Lilli drawing a picture and coloring it in crayon of her and what is her parents and how she changes the picture from bright and prosperous to dark and destructive. Lilli Got Sick really plays out with many quick cuts and electronic musical bursts of energy to get the senses reacting. I would say the film is very music video like in its editing style and relies on music to deliver a particular mood.
Further into the movie Lilli self harms by adorning her hands with knife wounds. She decides to take things to the next level by abducting a man she targets while on a secluded walking trail. The man played by director Zeglarski is abducted and tied to a chair to face Lilli’s hate filled wraith.
Lilli bludgeons her captive with a hammer endlessly in one brutal scene. Things get really hot and heavy when Lilli starts to eviscerate her victim. There is lots of graphic gore during this sequence especially when she decides to bathe in the entrails and literally writhes in a mound of decaying innards.
Clocking in at just over 14 minutes and not featuring much dialogue the viewer is in for a disturbing journey into a warped murderous mind of Lilli. Her sickness infects the brain causing her to kill, abduct, torture and, maim. Lilli Got Sick is a very twisted and cool short. I am excited to see what gory delights Zeglarski has planned for the upcoming Violent Obsession. If you are familiar with his effects work you know that you are in for a gory treat.
