The Hidden Gem of ’90s Horror: The Ugly Returns on Blu-ray from Unearthed Films
When folks mention slept on classics, The Ugly should be whispered in that conversation. New Zealand’s Scott Reynolds formulated and built one of the most chilling and darkest serial killer movies of that particular decade (the ‘90s) with a slammer of a twist ending.
Long relegated to bargain bins, The Ugly deserves more. Step forward and Unearthed Films are delivering a beautifully polished Limited Collector’s Edition version on Blu-ray on their Unearthed Classics line due for release in April 21st.
Confined to a mental institution, disturbed young serial killer Simon (Paolo Rotondo, The Rule of Jenny Pen) is tormented by cruel orderlies and his own personal demons including “The Ugly” which compels him to kill. Now at his request, Dr. Karen Schumaker (Rebecca Hobbs, The Brokenwood Mysteries) arrives to discover whether Simon is fit to be released back into society. As the terrifying secrets within Simon’s mind are revealed, no one will be left unscathed by the horrors about to be unleashed.
