Radiance Films Sets Release Date for Takashi Miike’s Most Demented Film Yet: Visitor Q Arrives on Limited Edition Blu-ray
Buckle up cinematic degenerates, one of the most notorious entries in the Takashi Miike catalog is finally getting the special edition treatment it deserves. Radiance Films has announced a Limited-Edition Blu-ray release of Visitor Q (2001), and if you thought you’d seen the worst that J-horror and extreme cinema had to offer, think again. This one rewrites the rulebook.
The Most Transgressive Film of Miike’s Career
Say what you want about Ichi the Killer or Audition, but Visitor Q has a legitimate claim to being Takashi Miike’s craziest, most boundary-obliterating work to date, and that’s saying something for a director who’s spent decades making a career out of demolishing taste and decency on camera. Originally shot on MiniDV for Japan’s “Love Cinema” series, the film follows a disgraced television reporter whose desperate attempts to shock his way back into relevance send him spiraling into a motel room encounter with his own estranged daughter. Back home, things get worse: a bullied son unleashes his rage on his mother, who’s turned to heroin and sex work just to numb the household dysfunction. Then Q shows up. A silent, unexplained stranger who seems to know exactly what kind of chaos — violent, sexual, or otherwise — each family member needs to break their cycle.
Visitor Q is a film that somehow manages to be shocking, satirical, and darkly hilarious all at once, and it’s earned comparisons to filmmakers as varied as Pasolini, Ozu, and John Waters — proof that Miike was operating on a completely different wavelength than just about anyone else working in genre film at the time.

Visitor Q is currently up for preorder through Radiance Films’ US store, priced at $25.97 (down from a $39.95 list price), with a release date of October 20, 2026.
