From Church to Chills: Inside Edinburgh’s World Famous Frankenstein Bar

Recently my Partner in Gore and I happened to chance upon a place of interest whilst on holiday in Edinburgh, Scotland. Hidden away in the old town part of the capital city, we found a unique bar like no other we’d ever seen.
Edinburgh has a history of horror and darkness. From Burke and Hare to thousands of witch burnings which has given birth to many hauntings and sightings over the years. On the old town side of Edinburgh, the original buildings still stand, the streets drip with history — and with millions of constant tourists. We checked the castle plus Greyfriars Cemetery.
The World Famous Frankenstein Bar can easily be missed — in fact, had it not been for the gaggle of goths outside grabbing a smoke, we wouldn’t have known about it. I immediately sighted ‘our kind’ of folks so then we ventured inside what was once a church.
A big looming monster greets you in the door, and the set up is amazing, honestly so much thought has gone into the set up. We filmed a guide video to the central floor (see below) but left the other floors as a surprise, especially the show downstairs. It runs every hour apparently — pyrotechnics, animatronics… have I got your attention yet?
I spoke with regional marketing manager, Darren who told me that the place has existed since the year 2000. There’s going to be a huge celebration in October to mark their 25th year.
He also said that aside from the atmospheric bar, the place is allegedly haunted as well. Incidentally, due to being extremely TikTok famous, people travel from around the globe to visit the World Famous Frankenstein Bar.
I cannot stress enough recommendation to pop into the World Famous Frankenstein Bar if you happen to be in Scotland. It has the best drinks, entertainment, music selection, very helpful staff (thanks for being patient with me regarding the t-shirt sizes) and their own merchandise.
Please watch the video as it gives you a bit of an insight. If you don’t want to watch and listen to me, roundabout halfway through the camera pans around without me involved.
